Overview
An accident can happen at any time. For example, maybe you take a bad fall and chip a tooth. Sometimes a tooth can get discolored for any number of reasons, such as from a medication or illness. Our certified dentists offer dental bonding and contouring to fix these small cosmetic flaws at our office in Wichita Falls, TX. A fast, effective cosmetic treatment, bonding and contouring uses composite resin (the same material used for tooth-colored fillings) to mask tooth discoloration, reduce spaces between gapped teeth, make a tooth longer, or even change the shape of a tooth. If you want a great way to improve the appearance of your smile, schedule a consultation to learn more about dental bonding and contouring at Stone Lake Dental.

Best Candidates
Bonding and contouring can treat cracks, gaps, chips, discoloration, short teeth, teeth shape, and more. It is an affordable cosmetic dental treatment and can normally be done in a single visit to our Wichita Falls facility. Additionally, it does not require the prep work of veneers or crowns; however, it is not as strong and usually does not last as long. Bonding and contouring is best for minor cosmetic flaws so if you need more extensive changes, another cosmetic or restorative procedure may be a better option for your needs. During your consultation, your Stone Lake Dental dentist will listen to your needs and concerns and then go over your best treatment options.
What To Expect
Dental bonding and contouring can be usually performed in one visit at our office. You should not need any anesthesia, but sedation options can be discussed during your consultation if you have any dental fears, anxieties, or a strong gag reflex. Once you are comfortable in the treatment chair, composite resin will be applied to the needed areas of your teeth. The bonding material will be hardened with a special light before more layers are added. Once the bonding process is complete, both the resin and your natural teeth will be contoured and polished for an even finish.
Recovery
After dental bonding and contouring, you should avoid staining food and drinks (like coffee, tea, and tobacco) for at least 48 hours. The composite bonding material can chip and stain so do not bite down on hard objects, such as ice cubes, pens, pencils, and your fingernails, and brush your teeth as soon as possible after eating. Bonded teeth should be cleaned like regular teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. Professional dental cleanings at Stone Lake Dental will help to remove stains from the composite resin. With proper care, dental bonding can last up to ten years. During your annual dental exam, we will help you decide if the bonding and contouring procedure needs to be redone to maintain your results.
Insurance Coverage
Dental bonding and contouring is a cosmetic procedure so it is generally not covered by dental insurance. Our front office can contact your insurance company to confirm your coverage, but most patients will pay out-of-pocket for this procedure. During your consultation, a member of our team can go over an estimate of cost and the payment options we accept at Stone Lake Dental.
