3D Impressions Overview
Having impressions of your teeth used to be considered a long and sometimes uncomfortable process. Physical impressions require you to bite into a mold for elongated periods of time, which is problematic for patients with a strong gag reflex. This is why our experienced dentists are proud to supply a modern alternative to physical molds with 3D impressions. Using the advanced technology of intraoral cameras, 3D (also known as digital) impressions take precise scans of your teeth. This allows us to create an accurate model of your teeth that can be used to create dental restorations, like implants, crowns, onlays, inlays, dentures, and more. If you're in need of restorative dental work, avoid the stress and time of physical molds with 3D impressions at Stone Lake Dental in Wichita Falls, TX.

Best Candidates for 3D Impressions
3D impressions are ideal for patients of all ages who have a strong gag reflex and/or people who want to avoid the stress of physical impressions. Our dentists use 3D impressions if you need a custom dental restoration, such as a crown, bridge, inlay, onlay, dentures, or removable orthodontic aligners (like Invisalign or ClearCorrect). 3D impressions are ideal for creating precise digital models of your teeth that can be sent directly to a dental laboratory.
What to Expect with 3D Impressions
During this procedure, you will relax in the treatment chair while a small scanning wand is passed around your mouth. This tool uses blue wavelength light to precisely capture all areas, corners, and crevices of your teeth. After the scanning is complete, a model of your teeth will appear on the monitor. If any areas were missed during the initial scan, a simple re-scan can be administered to catch the necessary areas, as opposed to using dental molds, which would require the entire process to be repeated.
3D Impressions Follow-Up
After your scans have been completed, they will be sent to a certified dental lab. Once your restoration or orthodontic treatment has been made based on your scans, we will be able to complete your treatment. We will also keep your 3D impressions with your file. This will make it easier if you need a new restoration and to compare changes in your teeth.
3D Impressions Insurance Coverage
One of our team members can help coordinate your coverage of your 3D impression treatment with your insurance company. We are happy to work with you to ensure that the payment process is handled smoothly and we will inform you of any out-of-pocket expenses.
